A Summary or Abbreviated teaching on the Gates of Jerusalem

Here is a summary of the Gates of Jerusalem in Nehemiah.
What the apostolic figure Arthur Wallis knew he shared around 72 or 73 in Fountain Trust one meeting Michael harper was away, but in so doing he opened a door in the Spirit for at least 6 or 7 Gates, by which all our secondlevel churches were established as our generation sought God for His ways to be re established in His Church.

Quite without anybody that I know preaching on it, the Spirit has been completing the installation right up to Gate 12.

What is a Gate in the Spirit? It is a portal of God's power and life. These are doors you go through, in and out. The gospel is the power and the grace of God. If they were just off the shelf doctrines I personally wouldn't be interested. Nerds would. No, these are facets of the corporate experience of the life of God

They represent cycles also in the seed harvest flow of God.
Complete a cycle in the Spirit and you WILL HAVE a GATE 9 revival. Having kids ain't random. it involves a bedroom most often, and a woman and a man. Revivals, like walking round Jericho are not random. If we DO the stuff the Spirit engages us in....revival follows.
Anybody who walks with God will know more than they think about these gates already, so if I summarise them you will see that the Holy Spirit has already taught you much.

Gate 1 the Sheep Gate
Discipling people to Christ. There are many pastors in a local Body ( the current practice of a CEO pastor isn't what is happening in the Spirit, which is why we all experience conflict between what God is ACTUALLY doing spontaneously and the stupid tithed role of a pyramid pastor overlord.
Pastoring in the Spirit is a eunuchs only job. You are pastoring people not to yourself but as quickly as possible getting people up and running with hearing the Spirit and doing.
You are really discipling not doctrine....but your own life of
proverbs 3:5 and 6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your insight ,Acknowledge God in all your ways and He will make straight your paths"
Gate 2
The Fish Gate
As soon as people are born again they spread the good news about the free salvation of God. Come and drink without price, and more pastoring goes on to ground these. God's heart is for the one lost sheep, not the nicely fed and watered 99.
God's heart is evangelism to reach more lovely people!!!!
Gate 3
The Old Gate
All the Holy Spirit revealed things thus far.
The Bible. The genuine moves of God and revelation of God
Also the genuinely authentic ABOUT YOU created in God before the foundation of the world and before sin even got a look in.
The reason we don't heap up prayers like gentiles is there is too much real communication to be had by going into our inner rooms to meet with Dad. About His plans for us, about His plans for the earth
Gate no 4 the valley Gate and Gate no 5 the Dung Gate
Matthew 5 makes it obvious the sort of paths we will be treading. days of humbling and difficulty to give us practice at being thrown onto God's solutions.
Also to reveal the depths of our independent self patterns, while learning all the time more about who we really are in Christ.
Ultimately this leads to our knowledge in Romans 6 that we have really died. Our spirit is our main not secondary identity....and we have really died with Jesus on the cross. This isnt religious fantasy....that was you dying there, and now we are raised in Him and we have a brand new creation identity inside us.
Gates 6 and 7 are the Fountain gate followed by the Water Gate. And they told us that Fountain Trust, the baptism in the Spirit teaching organisation under Michael Harper so nearly got called Watergate....but that broke as news a few months later.
If people haven't obeyed Christ's instructions to repent , be baptised (in water) and be filled or baptised in the Spirit, months or possibly decades of evangelicalism will cause enough burnout such that people give up, and let God !!!!
Not by Might nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord.
We learn the ongoing life of Spirit flow , the ongoing Water Gate) first in meetings then in the whole of our lives.
As He is so ARE WE in the world!!!!
We only do what we see the Father doing. Psalm 123.
Gates no 8,9,10,11 and 12 are thirdlevel gates. They appear at the moment only with particularly anointed individuals, but the idea through our thirdlevel gifting is tat they become resident at all times in all places in every church.
And as this spells the end of Satan on planet earth, this is why all Christians have more or less been against Norman Grubb's message. It has been Satan all along working WITHIN the people of God to prevent this message.
BUT LIFE and all its abundance doesn't actually work properly in our churches at the moment because these keys are missing.
Gate 8 is the Horse Gate or intercession and warfare. Opened in a big way in the 90s through Peter Wagner, Cindi Jacobs, Ed Silvoso and Suzette Hattingh from her real world experiences with Rheinhard Bonnke, and territorial warfare.
Gate 9 takes on new meaning after DeeDee Winter Winter shared with Linda Bunting and Paul Anderson-Walsh about Jesus Coming soon.
Jesus soon coming is happening all the time everywhere people are believing for it. It has the same dynamic as Jesus preaching The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. And Isaiah says His Name is Emmanuel, God with us. This is what the servants of the Lord speak out and declare.
The Eastern Gate, Gate 9, is Jerusalem's Front Door. It is the same door for the unbeliever who comes in (in type form) from the East, moving to the setting sun or completion in the West, as it is for Jesus when He returns.
The Soon Coming of Jesus is as bound up in heavenly visitation as it will finally be the consummation of Jesus Coming Soons exercised across the earth. The bride and the Holy Spirit say two types of Come in Revelation 22. To the fullness of the tribes we cry Come drink without price, and to the Bridegroom we say Come .
Gate number 10 , as indeed all the Gates are abbreviations for whole aspects of God in the Church.
The gate of Miphkad was traditionally the Gate of Judgment, the Gate where elders judged for israel and concerning the qulaity of the worship animals.
In the Spirit the gate of Miphkad is a mystery we are walking into. In its transitional form it is a democracy, but democracy is weakened by the spirit of error being still at large. It was democracy that chose Barabbas, being influenced by Satans servants disguised as priests. In the Spirit we are caught up in the Order of Melchizedek to function as king priests. All our meetings should be excercising us in this realm. As Paul said in Hebrews regarding the Tabernacle and I echo him, about all the Gates I have much apostolically to say but these are the abbreviations of this Kingdom City that comes down from above.
Gate Number 11 has been opened to us by John G Lake, by Smith Wigglesworth, by many of the healing evangelists and including Morris Cerullo who actually preaches on the Double Anointing.
This is the Gate of Ephraim that had to be doubly blessed to make up for the loss of the tribe of Dan.
It seems a double anointing is preceeded by extreme need. In Acts 4 it was the very real death threats of the religious Jews in Jerusalem. God's power lays bare the hearts and pride of men. Much in God is by "step" and "daily advances"....Psalm 19....day to day pours forth speech...
and "in returning and rest shall you be saved", "line upon line precept upon precept"
But a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as one day.
God's power in a moment can change everything. Like the Jesus Move in the 60s.
Like John Wesley and Whitfield.
Like God stepping in suddenly and almost absurdly with Brexit and Donald Trump.....it leaves everybody astounded.
Or Hitler suddenly turning away from Britian to Russia
Or the rescue of the troops in one day from Dunkirk in every boat that could be scrambled.
Rothschild lulls us into the thinking described in the Bible "everything contiin ues as it did from the begiining", now with the additional fairy tale of man being 300,000 years old with no mountain sized piles of dead bones anywhere to be seen!!!.
On one day Joshua announced we are going into the Land!!!! The thirdlevel message is no different.
This is Jesus is Lord consciousness!!!
The final Gate 12 is the thirdlevel dynamic. The Prison Gate.
Allowing God to shut us into places on behalf of others, to set them free.
Paul entered this Gate big time and it became for him a dynamic. So I feel Hebrews was probably written by Paul especially when he describes what is effectively the Prison Gate programme....
10 We have an altar from which those who serve the [c]tabernacle have no right to eat. 11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside the camp. 12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate. 13 So, let us go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach. 14 For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come.

By the time we have proved the goodness of the Lord and the Power of His resurrection coming through, what is deemed as something terrible and terrifying becomes to us an "engine" for driving the Kingdom of God forward.

Is having the Holy Spirit inside the same as the Baptism in the Spirit?

Or is Jerusalem Gate 1 the same

 as Jerusalem Gate 6?

Chris Welch Alexia the Bible doesn't mince.words. Jesus breathed on the disciples in the upper.room while still among them. The work of the Cross had been done. He had a legal right to fully initiate the disciples into the brazen altar aspect of what had just been an earthly copy in the previous priesthood. The story of the two goats.......the one that was burned and the one that was the scapegoat all became true in that moment before the ascension. This is what John 3 is about.

Euphoria-cosmopolitan shower head.....no really, the makers call it that!!!

But Acts 2 is that plus more. It is the anointing oil of introduction into the supernatural realm of God's priesthood. It is the Holy Spirit taking mankind into the covered area of the tabernacle. It is Him making us ambassadors.for.whom the promises of.Mark 16 and the signs following after become.possible. Before this we do not have the equipment. None of this is based on our works, our.suitability.......Saul of Tarsus was on a murder trek at the time he was born again then soon after prayed for to receive the baptism in the Spirit.....it is not based on our spirituality.....
As.foremost among Leftbrain Britons AT 13 if God can break me open He can do it to anybody.

But as I said.....the Bible doesn't mince.words, and the anointing is not enough. The disciples.we're enjoying Jesus own zap power and getting pretty high on it, when in Matthew 25 Jesus broke into their bubble with a story about 10 virgins.
The anointing is not for.sitting on, or for zap.me up meetings.....or.hardly anything it is currently used for......and.come the Bridegrooms.Cry.....
Five virgins had not traded enough with the oil to get more, and they didn't have enough oil for the call of God......Whether this was the final consummation cry.....or whether this.was a.call to the next Rhema project of God in the Earth.....the next wineskin outer manifestation of God's work.

This is the three level message of 1 John 2. The three places in the tabernacle. The place.beyond the current Pentecostal charismatic move.

Another spiritual picture are the 12 Gates of.Jerusalem. Gates one and two represent the sheep gate and the fish gate. When the Holy Spirit comes into us we become.a.sheep......but one of the first thing we do is catch fish. Our fresh testimony stirs our friends and.neighbours and some.are touched.
But none of this is Gate 6 and 7.......the fountain gate and the water gate.
Baptism in the Spirit is something quite distinct, but by Acts 2......Jews who.had already been in the outer courts processes of God were whisked in to a proper.New birth experience and a baptism in he Spirit on day one of the Church.
This is the foundation of True church......we.don't have to wait for long processes.....
Jesus.ascended and gave gifts to men......period. Our Jesus generation experienced all the first 6 or 7 Gates of Jerusalem in one kaleidoscope.experience over just months.......and this is how.it should.be. But in the last 50 years God has been using many significant servants of God to raise up the last 5 Gates.......and pretty soon the whole church will.catch up.

The 12 Gatesof Jerusalem
1. Sheep Gate (Luther and all pertaining to the Lamb for a household.) Discipleship. Juan Carlos Ortiz. Song of Solomon 1....where now may I go to learn?
2. Fish Gate. Early victories from the Sheep Gate proclaimed and in come the first wave.....the Fish
3. The Old Gate. Learn your spiritual family identity....designed in the Father's heart before Creation, thought about in Abraham, through the "prototype rollout that was Israel the nation," after the sands of the seashore" (Abraham's first promise.....then the stars without number....heavenly born family"
4.The Valley Gate. Entering the Narrow way....the eye of the needle....reveals all that is of the independent self and has to go......where
5. Jettisoned at the Dung Gate
6. The Crisis Encounter of the baptism in the Spirit at the Fountain Gate
7. Learning to live in Flow.....the freefall of faith....the Water Gate.
Begin by soaking....by entering your inner room and shutting your door to all independent self trash....Going inside and meeting with Dad....and your genuine self in His heart.
8. The Horse Gate. Initial experience of WAR. Over your new identity as a spiritual young man 1 John 2....BUT FROM THE FOUNDATION of Victory and knowing YOU HAVE OVERCOME in the Cross. The Horse Gate is also the first experiences of taking spiritual territory as churches. From the moment you are made a functioning priest by baptism in the Spirit....even in the Holy Place....you enter into real Warfare.
9. The Eastern Gate.....has two meanings....eternally being rolled out according to Revelation22....FIRST, waves of Revival as tons of new unchurched come flooding in. Now there is Spirit infrastructure. The Fish Gate was a bit of a freefor all. (Compare the disciples two supernatural episodes fishing....the first was a bit of a mess and the nets broke) The second meaning is CHRIST being called back. So the Spirit and the Bride say Come....buy water without price Isaiah 55/Revelation...then the Spirit and the Bride say to the Bridegroom Come. (When the fulness of the Gentiles has com in then shall the end come.....)
10. TOO BIG TO SAY....Gate of Miphkad. Judgment Gate has a new meaning according to Ephesians 1.9....an administration suitable to the summing up of the times....see my blog index
11. The Morris Cerullo Gate. The Gate of Ephraim. The double anointing of Elisha. Of Smith Wigglesworth. Of John G Lake.
Healing and deliverance and miracles....basically anything going!!!!
12. The Prison Gate
Pouring your self out as a libation.....filling out the sufferings lacking in Christ's affliction. Thirdlevel living.
Joining Christ in His walk

I was just thinking this to the Lord "It's funny, I seem to have to go around Christendom to find bits of the story that each denomination or ministry didn't give you, to find bits of the story that are missing in your head, for example I never knew the Christ lived in me as me from the denominational church. Then I was drawn to those who did know Christ living in them, through which I now know he does… Life in me as me, but that group never told me really about the authority to heal the sick and raise the dead. I have to find that from another source. Who are the John, Peter, Paul & Timothy today? Thank you you have shown a few who are healing the sick and raising the dead

Not linear....cyclic

For a linear brain something has to be good and its opposite bad. God doesn't think in lines He thinks in circles of completion.
Some say they find God in nature. Implying Not in human nature so not flipping churches then.
Some say they find God in gentle music so not in flipping Black church freak out when God has been delivering folk.
Some say they prefer things to be kept simple so not flipping intellectual stuff then and vice versa.
Some say they like small gatherings.....so not flipping great revivals then.
I particularly wanted to get here because Jesus worked at all levels simultaneously. My dear.....because God doesn't think linear but rather seasonally and in cycles and because He is Lord you don't get to choose anything. You will JOLLY well have seasons of dry quiet and then you will have seasons of thunderous rain and you will enjoy them both. The Gates that surround Jerusalem are often juxtaposed. Here are some.
The first Gate is the Sheep Gate....Implying the beginning relationship in Song of Songs....discipleship....home groups....individual pastoring....small....intimate.
The second gate is the Fish Gate....immediately implying early revival......loads of new people.....numerousness
The 6th gate is pretty spectacularly the Fountain Gate. The inundation of the baptism in the Spirit.
The 7th Gate is much more mundane....it's vital tho.....the Water Gate.....we need daily water to live. We have to find our own water Gate in some.very dry surroundings.
The 11th Gate is total "flash Harry" stuff. It's the gate of Ephraim....the double anointing. Among the pioneers it has only been ever reached by a handful....Yer George Jeffries...Smith Wigglesworths....John G Lake. So even if you are a shy retiring wall flower....tough.....that's what the 11th Gate is.
The 12th Gate is just the opposite....it's the prison gate. Either prison itself like Nee ....St Paul and Wurmbrand....or a confinement of some kind like Paul Cain with his ailing mother....but is itself an intercession door opener on a grand scale.
There's no either or in the Kingdom. It's life in all its abundance which means a good deal more than Rolls Royces. Gate no 9 is seasonal and its huge. It's not like the Fish Gate which is an early influx. No this is the Grand OPEN DAY.....this is when the main Eastern Gate gets opened and the complete beginners come marching in " from the East"....the rising of the sun....the very beginning of God's revelations. But we can't say....oh God I don't like those....because that's what the whole cycle has been about.....to get ready for another influx. A similar cyclic preparation phase goes on in a lady's womb. If you happen to think in linear terms....well it's just tough.....the whole of creation is seasonal.

Seminary trained people usually have virtually zero consciousness...though some are baptised in the Spirit.
The apostles put it this way....we preach what we know, what we have handled touched tasted....
This right here is the reason Christianity is so so so slow in the earth right now.
It's very similar to TV sales men only being given radios to sell their products. Some precious folk have managed to get as far as black and white TVs....but try seliing an HDTV all surround sound model only being given a 1950s black and white TV....and this is more or less how Christianity in the earth is.
The real whole problem is Jesus is alive.

How to describe the seals in Revelation?
Jesus the Ruler of all opens the seals.
There's something about a seal that's like a plaster over a wound...or like opening a can of worms. It's opening something so He can deal with it. Understand, opening the seal doesn't make it happen...make it appear....it has always been there as part of the mess in the secondheavens. The squatters in paradise. The area that the angel spent 22 days battling through to get the message to Daniel.
No , opening the seal does 2 things....it opens our eyes on earth to it, and it builds into the Body, or raises up rather, that portion of Christ lacking in its growth.
Homosexuality has always been an issue...but before our generation it has been a buried one. People opening up about it doesn't mean Jesus has made it right...but what it does mean is that it is being engaged with. The Protocols of Zion were perfectly clear that from their point of view they were going to flood the nations with everything the Bible prohibits. But they (largely NOT Semite Jews) and other kabals were behind Hitler and Communism too. Now Hitler if you remember sent homosexuals to their deaths in camps....so don't think they have changed their spots! It is convenient for them at present to flood the nations with immorality. They were behind funding all the major pornography publishing houses and sattellite TV channels. But from Jesus point of view He has already declared what is happening.

Everything being on one continuum means that everything is in God somewhere, but not in its final form.
The Koran contains good bits and bad bits. Luckily, Muslims mostly live from the good bits....but all the extremists are actually obeying the Koran too. From Chapter 2 to chapter 73 there are at least 109 verses advocating religious war. For those UNDER shariah law it's a religion of peace....like a slightly more benign form of New World Order, where as long as you submit to the Antichrist you can have food and water and "everything will be peaceful". For a Muslim this will be shocking as it is also for a person in the Exclusive Plymouth brethren, a very similar exclusive sect...but least they don't kill you if you leave....they just will cut you off ALIVE.
So everything being on one continuum means everything is in the PLAN...but we do not see everything yet submitted to Christ who even now is the ALL IN ALL.
If Christ is not the SINGLE SOURCE OF ALL LIFE in the Universe...then Richard Dawkins ofcourse can feel perfectly happy proclaiming his own one which he believes ends quite quickly in death...and that's that.....the same as all atheists who are not Buddhist.
WERE JESUS not what He says He is we would have to brandish placards and have fishes on all our vehicles and persuade , manipulate, generally twist everybody's arm to become Christians. BUT HE IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS...and we who are the first to believe act as midwives while the rest of the world go through the discovery process. We ARE ALLOWED TO PREACH....but strictly only as ones THRUST OUT BY THE SPIRIT. We can do a lot of damage by HITTING PEOPLE OVER THE HEAD with Leftbrain speech which has little or no Holy Spirit undertow. People can only be born again by the Spirit. They are not born again by leftbrain virus transfer.
Buddhists are on this continuum. They understand spirituality, but they need the Holy Spirit of the LIving Father of Jesus Christ to know a "spirit" switch must take place....being born again from on high.
Humanists and Atheists in this continuum largely present the RATIONAL MODERATING VIEW....but because they are NOT necessarily Keyed into their insides...they can easily be diverted if  leftbrain parameters are shot at them continuously enough, then when they pass a Law, the Law itself inures them to any more thought on the subject. This is how abortion, homosexuality and various other sexual laws have been passed under their noses, and how euthanasia will soon be passed as long as they continue living in their leftbrains.
HOLINESS...the SPIRIT OF THE TRIUNE GOD...speaking to our insides declares what is right and wrong. But what atheists and humanists are good for are many of the standard freedoms of coexistence and all the necessities for human life. CHARITY has now largely passed from the Christian church to Humanist settings. (This in itself presents certain Judas Treasurer thief issues...but that's another post)
When God called His protoype people...He called them as a complete set of 12 tribes. When Jesus transmitted the Kingdom message it was through 12 simultaneous types of people...the 12 apostles in Act2 .
God's PLAN is the COMPLETE CONTINUUM...the whole PICTURE interacting simultaneously. Paul spoke of himself as called to bring whole nations to obedience. No small plan in the Spirit...because calling nations to a doctrine IS DEAD....as we have seen with Islam and Catholicism....and northern and southern Ireland. If Methodism was pronounced as a state religion it would be a disaster...it only contains a very few GATES of Jerusalem. (There being 12, like the 12 tribes, and ALL have to be in place to have the whole continuum)
Like individual atoms that connect in new molecules...it's not the individual atoms that make water....it's having them connected and bonded in the right proportion.
The heavenly blueprint is a CITY...compacted together of 12 interlinking relationships. No tribe, no Gate has it all...in fact if you let one RULE alone everything else dies a death.
This is the secret of the ages regarding politics. Our current fudge round the issue is democracy...but it's as perverted as hell literally. THE ONLY THING THAT WILL OUTLAST ALL TIME is an administration suitable to the summing up of the times, which is in Christ Jesus Himself...but nobody can even see the Kingdom of God , which is a PERSON...without being born again by the Spirit. So you can now see the tall order God set for Himself when He said
LET THERE BE LIGHT.
THE LIGHT or the LOGOS is a complete functioning reality where ALL MUST KNOW HIM...not by machine gun either....but because they WANT TO...because they have fallen in love with Him. If God can do that with me...he can do that easy peasy with another 7 billion....especially because of the way peer pressure works. When enough see what living with Him exalted looks like...others join quickly.
In the current leaven stage of the operation this happens in elongated midwife cycles, which appear as revivals....we're currently in a huge gestation phase...but as the Book of Daniel states...the "Empire"...this huge 2nd heaven Star Wars equivalent under rulers and powers who are wanting to manifest right now....will not be around forever blocking the process....THE ROCK will smash the feet and the whole Darth Vader Emperor Palpatine thing will fall and crumble. Ofcourse the Dark side are saying the same thing right now about Christianity...because they have done just what Jesus said they would do and infest the whole "Kingdom Field " on earth with bogus pedophiles, and false teachers, and Old Testament Law constructs like visiting a temple once a week, and priests, and tithing...when Christianity was nothing to do with this...it's a brand new Covenant as prophesied in Jeremiah 31.27
31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. 33 “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

IN FACT IF YOU READ IT YOU CAN SEE PRETTY MUCH 2000 YEARS OF CHURCH HISTORY IDENTICALLY OFF KILTER AS THE JEWS WERE....full of unbroken people who don't know the Lord at all.

Jerusalem's Gates: an Australian Study

The book of Nehemiah is a book of restoration, a record of the rebuilding of the walls and gates of natural Jerusalem. But it is also a picture of the work God is doing in the restoration of His Church - the spiritual City of God (Hebrews 11:10; 12:22). The edict for the rebuilding of Jerusalem was issued by Artaxerxes in 445 BC (Nehemiah 1:1-4; 2:5). The Temple had been rebuilt under Ezra, but the walls of the city itself lay in ruin (Nehemiah 2:17).

The city of Jerusalem had twelve gates, each with a significance in the daily life and historical experience of natural Jerusalem. Each gate has a spiritual counterpart, for they are a "shadow" of the reality that was to come (Hebrews 8:5; 10:1; read also Revelation 21:10-13). Each gate in the New Jerusalem is a single pearl (Revelation 21:21). Jesus is the pearl of great price (Matthew 13:45-46) and the only entrance into the City (John 10:9; 14:6). Each gate therefore depicts aspects of the finished work of the Cross of Christ, outworked in our experience.

The Sheep Gate

"Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set its doors in place, building as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and as far as the Tower of Hananel" Nehemiah 3:1.

The Sheep Gate was the first to be restored, and was rebuilt by the High Priest and his fellow priests (see Hebrews 4:14-15; 7:24-8:2). It was called the Sheep Gate because it led out to the sheep markets, where lambs were sold for sacrifice in the Temple (see John 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:7). This gate also led to Golgotha, the path Jesus took to the crucifixion.

The Sheep Gate represents the experience of salvation made available by the Cross. This spiritual gate is the first to be built in our lives and was the first restored truth in the Reformation.

The Fish Gate

"The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place" Nehemiah 3:3.

This gate had been one of the main entrances into Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 33:14; Zephaniah 1:10). Merchants brought fish to the fish market through this entrance. The Fish Gate represents our witness, the Church reaching out to the world (Matthew 4:19).

The Jeshanah Gate (old)

"The Jeshanah Gate was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place" Nehemiah 3:6.

The word "jeshanah" means "old". The elders of the city would meet at the gate to discuss matters of community importance and issue judgment on disputes (Joshua 20:4; Ruth 4:11; Proverbs 31:23). This gate represents both the eldership of the city (the leaders of the Body) and their guidance in the "ancient paths" of God (Jeremiah 6:16) in spiritual growth. Of interest, two men are picked out as rebuilders of the Jeshanah Gate: Uzziel, the goldsmith, and Hananiah, the perfume-maker (see 1 Peter 1:6-7; 2 Corinthians 2:14-15). Pastoral elders are the goldsmiths and perfume-makers of the Body!

The Valley Gate

This gate led to two main valleys that defined Jerusalem geographically and historically. The Hinnom Valley separated Mount Zion from the Hill of Evil Counsel and the "plain of Rephaim" to the south (Deuteronomy 2:20-21; 2 Samuel 21:16-22). Solomon erected high places for Molech in this valley (1 Kings 11:7), to whom children were sacrificed by fire (2 Kings 16:3; 23:10; 2 Chronicles 28:3; 33:6; Jeremiah.7:31). Josiah rendered the valley "ceremonially unclean" by spreading human bones over it (2 Kings 23:10,13-14). From then it became the garbage tip of the city. Because of its ceremonial defilement and its history of human sacrifice by fire, this valley came to be called "Ge Hinnom" or "Gehenna" - the name used for hell itself, the Lake of Fire (Matthew 5:22; 10:28; 23:15,33).

The second valley was called the Kidron, which means "turbid, dusky, gloomy". It was across this valley that Jesus crossed to go to the Garden of Gethsemane (John 18:1). It was into this valley that the pagan altars and images were burned during the cleansing of Jerusalem (1 Kings 15:13; 2 Kings 23:4-12; 2 Chron.15:16; 29:16; 30:14).

The Valley Gate represents firstly what we have been taken out from, snatched from the fires of hell by the grace of God; and secondly, a valley we enter by choice, the valley of suffering and cleansing (Psalm 23:4; 84:6-7).

The Dung Gate

"The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Recab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem. He rebuilt it and put its doors and bolts and bars in place" Nehemiah 3:14.

The Dung Gate was the exit for city refuse and rubbish. Spiritual "dung" represents two things:

The shame of the old life (Romans 7:24; 6:1-4,6; Revelation 21:27; 22:14-15).The glory of the old life (Philippians 3:7-10).

As God's new creation, we count both the shame and the glory of the old life as "dung" compared to knowing and experiencing the glory of Christ. We dump all this refuse out the Dung Gate.

The Fountain Gate

"Then I moved on toward the Fountain Gate and the King's Pool, but there was not enough room for my mount to get through" Nehemiah 2:14.

The Fountain Gate appeared to be the gate in most ruin, so much so that it blocked Nehemiah's midnight inspection. This meant that, in the natural, the Fountain Gate must have been a centre of concentrated attack during the siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonian army (2 Kings 25:4). Likewise, this gate's spiritual counterpart is a target of concentrated Satanic attack.

"The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Col-hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofing it over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Siloam, by the King's Garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David. Beyond him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of a half-district of Beth Zur, made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool and the House of the Heroes...Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section, from a point facing the ascent to the armoury as far as the angle" Nehemiah 3:15-19.

A number of places are associated with and accessed by the Fountain Gate:

The King's Pool - Pool of Shiloah/Siloam (Isaiah 8:6; John 9:7).The King's Garden (Song of Songs 4:12-16; Isaiah 58:11-12; John 15:1-8).Steps to Zion (Neh.12:37; Psa. 87:2; Heb. 12:22).Tombs of David (2 Chron.32:33; Act. 2:25-32).House of Heroes (2 Sam.23:8-39; 22:32-51).The Armoury (Rom.13:12; Eph.6:11-17).

The Fountain Gate derived its name from the fact that it was the primary access to the Fountain - the Gihon Spring, Jerusalem's sole perennial source of water. This fountain represented the life source of God Himself (Psalm 36:9; Isaiah 8:6). Prior to the captivity, Jeremiah prophesied:

"My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water" Jeremiah 2:13.

Of all the sins of Jerusalem, these two were singled out by God as the most severe. These two sins remain the most severe in the Church too:

Forsaking the spring of living water (Jeremiah 17:5-8,13).Building broken cisterns (Jeremiah 14:3-4; 38:6; Genesis 37:24; Zechariah 9:11).

A cistern was like a well, built into the ground, but had no independent source of water. Water was brought from another source to the cistern, which held it in storage for later use. The Lord likens those who trust in their own resources to those who build broken cisterns - their lives leak joy, peace, faith and strength. Jesus encouraged us to come to Himself - the spring of living water (John 4:10-14).

"On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him' John 7:37-38 (see also verse 39; Revelation 7:17; Psalm 23).

This is the experience accessed by the Fountain Gate - the living water, and its resulting fruitfulness (Genesis 49:22). Further, it is at the spring of living water that the Holy Spirit is looking for the Bride (as pictured in Genesis 24:16,42-45; see also Revelation 22:17).

Continuing the study of the restoration of the gates of Jerusalem (read Isaiah 60:1-3,5,11,18), we will look in this lesson at the six remaining gates, each of them representing a work of restoration in the Church (1 Corinthians 10:11; Colossians 2:17; Hebrews 8:5; 10:1).

The Water Gate

"...and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs up to a point opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower" Nehemiah 3:26.

In Scripture, water represents the word of God (John 15:3; Ephesians 5:26; Hebrews 10:22). And the word of God was closely associated with the Water Gate. Note also that it was the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel (Mt Zion) who are recorded as repairing the Water Gate.

"...all the people assembled as one man in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the scribe to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel. So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law" Nehemiah 8:1-3.

The date recorded for the commencement of this reading was the first day of the seventh month, which was the beginning of the Feast of Trumpets (Leviticus 23:24; Numbers 29:1). Three things happened during this time:

The Book was opened (verse 5).The people were instructed (verse 7).The Word was made clear (verse 8).

Most of the people had not heard the Scriptures before (Amos 8:11), and so there were four principal reactions to the Word:

Worship (verses 5-6).Weeping (verse 9).Rejoicing (verses 10-12).Obedience (verse 13).

The spiritual reality of this gate is also being restored in our day, as God's Word is opened and we act in obedience to that Word.

The Horse Gate

"Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house" Nehemiah 3:28.

Even before its destruction, God promised to restore the Horse Gate (Jer. 31:30-40). This was the gate where the King's chariot passed through.

Read Job 39:19-25. In the Bible, the horse represents two attributes in the Christian life:

Discipline (James 3:3).Warfare (Zech.10:3; Songs 1:9).

The Lord is restoring to His Church a military discipline, so that we may be harnessed for battle (Revelation 6:2; 19:11; 17:14).

The Miphkad Gate

"Next to him, Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate..." Nehemiah 3:31.

The Hebrew word used for this gate's name is miphkad,which can be translated in many ways - "appointment, mandate, designated spot, mustering, the numbering in a census." For this reason, different Bible versions render this gate in different ways- "the Inspection Gate", "the Muster Gate" and "the Gate Miphkad". But why was this gate called miphkad ?

The word miphkad is used only three passages (one of them a repeated story). Read 1 Chronicles 21:1-22:2. The miphkadhere was the "number" of the soldiers taken in the census. Because David was a fighting man, yet was to rely on God's strength in battle, God had, it appears, specifically told David not number his army (note verses 1-3,6-7), for Moses had taken two censuses at God's own command (Num.1:1-2; 26:1-2; Ex.20:12-16). The result of David's transgression was judgment from God. But the angel was stopped by God at the threshing floor of Araunah. There David was commanded to build an altar before God, and it was there that the temple was later built.

So what did miphkad mean to the people of Jerusalem? Firstly, it meant the actual census held by David; secondly, and most importantly, it meant the temple site itself - the "appointed place" where the ark eventually came to reside (1 Chronicles 22:1,6-10). The only other use of miphkad is in Ezekiel 43:21, where it means "appointed place". The Miphkad Gate led into the Temple courtyard, the "appointed place" of God's presence.

Today, God is restoring the Miphkad Gate in His Church – the appointed place of meeting together in the manifested presence of the Lord (Hebrews 10:25; Matthew 18:20; Psalm 133).

The Ephraim Gate

The Ephraim Gate did not need restoration, for it was already intact. Ephraim means "double fruitfulness." Anything that is "double" means requires a previous measure as a reference point for the doubling. The double fruitfulness of today's Church is measured against the original fruitfulness of the early Church. This gate in the Church is not restored, but rather fulfilled. The Ephraim Gate was also associated with the Feast of Tabernacles (Nehemiah 8:16-18), which is God's pattern for the last day harvest. The focal day of this feast was the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:2,12-17), which also has a spiritual fulfilment in the Church (Revelation 8:1-5). As His Church, we are called not only to be fruitful, but doubly fruitful (John 15:1-8; 14:12).

The Gate of the Guard

This gate (also called the King's Gate because it led to the palace) also needed no repairs (see Nehemiah 3:29; 12:39). There were two kinds of guards: the guards at all the gates (7:1-3) and the keepers at the Guard Gate (7:45,73). This last kind were not simply recruited, but appointed as a lineage, just like the priests, singers and temple servants (Nehemiah 10:28-29,39; 12:45-47; 13:4-5).

Read 1 Chronicles 9:17-26. The responsibilities of the gate-keepers (as an order within the temple) were to:

Guard the thresholds of "the Tent" - the Temple (verses 19-25).Responsible for the rooms and treasures in the house of God (verse 26; Romans 11:33; Colossians 2:2-3).Had charge of the key for opening each morning (verse 27; Luke 11:52; Matthew 16:19).Had charge of the articles used in temple service (verse 28).Were assigned to take care of the furnishings and consumables (verse 29).

One particular man set apart as a gatekeeper was Obed-Edom (read 2 Samuel 6:12; 1 Chronicles 13:13; 15:18,19,24; 16:4-5,37-38). The gatekeepers were those who had such an experience of the riches of God's presence that they devoted their whole lives to ushering others into the presence of God. Read Psalm 84:10 (also whole psalm).

The East Gate

"Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house. Next to him, Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, the guard at the East Gate, made repairs" Nehemiah 3:29.

The East Gate was another gate that needed no repair. It was the middle of the three gates that led into the Temple compound - the other two being the Water Gate and the Gate of the Guard - and had a special prophetic significance for the people of Israel (read Ezekiel 47:1; 10:1-5,15-19) and represented two things:

The Coming of the Glory of the Lord (Ezekiel 43:1-5; Isaiah 6:1-4).The Coming of the Lord of Glory - both the First Coming (Zechariah 9:9-10; Luke 19:29-49; 21:37-38; Ezekiel 44:1-2) and the Second Coming (Matthew 24:27; Zechariah 14:3).

The week before His crucifixion, Jesus spent each night on the Mount of Olives . Each morning he would enter through the East Gate (Matthew 24:1-3; Mark 13:1-4). He later ascended to heaven from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1:12) and will return the same way He left (verses 10-11; Ezekiel 11:1-3,23). At that time He will again pass through the East Gate into the city of Jerusalem - psalm 24
